The "Hospital School" for sick pupils in Viennese hospitals is part of the public educational system and organisational assigned to the special school sphere. Contentwise instruction in the hospitals of Vienna extends over all ranges of the general-forming compulsory schools. Schoolable children are taught according to their presentness, any longer schoolable children are - if possible - advised.

Illness is in contrast to a handicap a temporally limited condition, which can have consequences.

The order for education to the teachers in the hospital covers the educational work apart from the switching of instruction material also as an assistance for the child actively for mastering it's situation in the hospital to plan and/or it's future life again.

Hospital everyday-life creates special conditions for this kindof teaching.

Hospital school has to react to the conditions of the medical knowledge and the working methods resulting from it. It acts in a - for schools - strange environment with all pros and cons, resulting from it.

To the usually existing relations network "child - parents - teachers" the system hospital steps in addition and above everything floats the dark cloud of the illness.
